Hero #2: Wallis Bird

I admit, I did say that Blair Waldorf would be my Hero #2, but I said I'd go for a local hero of mine, the amazing folk singer-songwriter Wallis Bird.

Review: Supernatural Season 2

The second season of Supernatural (the first of which I already reviewed) is basically about two brothers, Sam and Dean who hunt all kinds of supernatural creatures. As is the case with most TV shows, the first season mainly establishes the characters, the concept, the setting and all that, while the second season delves into the story deeper and that certainly holds true for Supernatural.

College and how I feel about it

Okay, so let's get down to the real business of college.

To be honest, when I started first, I kind of hated it. Shock horror. The thing I've been working towards for my entire academic career and it's not all its cracked up to be. I mean, it was tough. I was really homesick, I felt really lonely and I didn't really feel like I could talk to anyone about it. I really missed my family and felt somewhat alienated from my friends.

Let me put it this way, the people I thought I would be hanging out with in college, I don't. Of all my friends who came to Trinity, there's only one that I really hang out with on a consistent basis, maybe two. So yeah, it was difficult for the first few weeks. More than once I just wanted to pack up and go home and never come back.

But, I didn't.

I worked way to hard to get to this point and give up. Trinity was the only college I ever wanted to go to and nothing was going to ruin it for me. I'm not saying I forced myself to enjoy it or anything, I think I just opened myself up to it more. Sure, I still get homesick and yeah, I do feel lonely sometimes, but college has become a much more enjoyable place now. A few things helped this, firstly, getting to know people in my class, then the class rep training. Really though, if friends of mine hadn't of been there, Trinity would have been much tougher I think. It's nice to have someone to lean on, someone to have a laugh with without the whole 'new friendship' thing.

This week and late last week, I really had a change in my attitude to college and I know that lots of people struggle during the first few weeks, but I think if you get through that, it gets so much better. So yeah, if you're coming to college in the future, don't worry if you don't love it immediately, it takes time to adjust.

I love my course, I love meeting new people, I love the new independence. I'm miss my family something awful, but its all part of it really and yeah, college is great. Fin.

Class Rep Training

So, time to catch up!

You might have heard, but I was elected class rep for my Junior Freshman HistPol class! Deadly, I know! 'Was it a tough campaign??', I hear you cry. Well....not really, no. I mean, I ran unopposed. I think I just scared the competition away. Hey, their lose, not mine!

So, what exactly is it that class rep does? Well, I'm still not 100% sure, but it's really just to be well, a class representative for the Students' Union. I have to go to SU Council eight times a year, if my class has any welfare or academic issues, I'm there to give them a hand and I organise class parties! Fun times!

Anyway, last Friday morning at a ridiculously early hour, the SU all the class reps onto a bus and brought us to a really nice hotel somewhere in Meath for two days of class rep training and drunken debauchery. We learned a bit during the course of the two days, but the real highlight was Friday night. It was a fantastic night and I met lots of new people. I mean, going up there I knew one person, Nailer, but coming back there was a few people that I would consider friends. Awww.

There was a party in literally every room, even our's! Whenever security came up to quieten us down, the party just moved one room down! Excellent! There was togas all over the place, a terrible band, the explosion greeting and an awful table quiz. And Agyness Dyne girl.

Best night I've had out in Dublin for sure and even this week, I can see a difference around college, I mean, I see people that I actually know! It's awesome! So yeah, happy faces all round!

Finally!

Okay, so finally I have some time to myself! Wahey! Finished my essay this morning and I have a long weekend to relax and de-stress from this week. My essay is for 'Early Modern Europe', part of my course and I shot out something about the printing press. Believe me, it was NOT easy.

So yeah, now I'm freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Lots has been happening. I'll blog about those now.

Lisa Mitchell

Lisa Mitchell is definitely one to watch for this year. Her debut album The Attic Space is out on the 15th of November.

I actually LOVE this song. It's so darn catchy. You've probably heard it from the Surf ad. The single is out on the 20th of October.

Buy it.

Cherish it.

Apologies!

Hello!

I know I said this last week, but again, I'm sorry for not blogging sooner! I've been unnaturally busy, it's so hectic up here! This week was my first week of lectures and yeah, at first it was incredibly daunting and I had no idea what was going on.

I turned up for all my lectures, but didn't seem to really get into it till Thursday, where I found my feet a little bit. Thursday was a good day, today too. I'm starting to enjoy the course and yeah, it's tough, but fun. One of my reading lists has 125 books on it.....Horrible.

I'm not too keen on Sociology as of yet. It's all a bit wishy-washy and despite the fact that people say "It's just common sense", well, that's just not true. It's much more difficult than that, well in my opinion! But, I'm loving Introduction to PoliSci and Economic Policy. Again, a bit daunting at first, but now, I'm enjoying both!

I absolutely love Early Modern Europe, the lecturer is dead funny and it's very nice. Europe 1000-1250 is going much better than I thought and I'm making my way through some of the books now. I'm really happy with it! I have a 1500 word essay due in two weeks, unfortunatly.

The joys of college!

Anyway, besides that, I went to a Political debate, that was actually alright and then Dr. Cox was in Trinity for a talk, the queue was huge but he was right beside me on the stairs, I shook his hand later, it was great. Went out on Wednesday, the whole under-age thing was a sticking point again, unfortunatly. I ended up as a third wheel to two very nice people, but a third wheel nonetheless. Ah well.

Also, my blanket is so nice. It's massive and super warm... Excellent!

Oh yeah, big news! My appeals came back, at last! I got upgraded to an A2 in Japanese....Wahey! 4 A's! And a B3 in Irish, which was really nice. Total points....510. Not too shabby!! Thought you'd want to know.

I'm still working away on my story, it's plodding along nicely, I have some ideas for it. I'll put up the first part soon enough I reckon! So, stay tuned to this blog.

I'll write more tomorrow for sure.

Sorry for not writing again.

Talk soon.

So....College!

I'm actually so tired right now, so I won't write much tonight. Sorry for not blogging for the past week, but we only got broadband in the apartment on Friday, as I was getting ready to go home and I haven't set my laptop up on the network properly. Oh well.

College has been great, only in Dublin can you stay out till 3AM on a Tuesday. Excellent I know. But yeah, so far my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. I joined an unholy amount of societies, with one still to join (DU Dance). Seriously, no way will I get to all of them. I've met new people, everyone up there is so nice, it's crazy!

I've been out a few out a few times already and though I didn't go wild like most people during Freshers' Week, I had a deadly time. It's terrible how I'm not 18 for a month, I still face the horrible pit-of-your-stomach feeling when queing for clubs. Didn't get into 21 in Dublin, but then again, it was 8e I just didn't want to spend!

That leads me on to something else, whereas it's nice being able to pick and choose what I want to buy, it's a pain keeping track of money. Monetary responsibility.....Rotten. I've been living off Coca Pops for breakfast and then my Mam's homemade lasange. Not at the same time mind. That would be horrible.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to starting my course. Well, the Politics side of it at least, the History orientation meeting wasn't exactly inspiring if I'm being honest. We'll see I guess!

There's lots more to say about college and living in Dublin in general (it's so weird waking up to the sound of the DART!!), but I'm wreaked and shall hopefully be blogging from Dublin soon!

Laters.

P.S. Gossip Girl is still amazing. Serena is such a bitch!
